I was going through some photos from this past month and found a series of photos I shot on the amazing Fuji X100 of a sunset on the Potomac River in St. Mary’s County at my wife’s uncles house. It’s sad that these views are so hard to see in the Southern Maryland area if you don’t live on the water or know someone who does. They’ve almost become hidden and only accessible by those special enough to live or own land along the many water ways in Southern Maryland leaving the rest of us having to rely on the few state and national parks in the area, which all just so happen to close at sunset (lucky us).

So another Help-Portrait has come and gone, and as usual, it was an amazing experience. There is something about this event that just warms my heart and I look forward to it every year. This years event came together in just one week and it went off flawlessly. A testament of the professionalism of everyone involved. It was amazing. Seriously. We shot close to 60 families between 5 photographers, but the star of the show was Lacey who was our lone make up artist and worked the entire day, and rarely got a break. Props. This year, three people really touched me, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about them all weekend and I honestly can’t wait to deliver them their photos, so I just wanted to share a few shots of them. Seeing a young guy so appreciative and so stoked about what we were doing was mind blowing, and getting a big hug and a kiss from an old lady after showing her a photo of her and husband is pretty much the best thing ever. With that said, thanks to Jo, Joe, Graham, Matt, Deb, Jen, Lacey, and everyone else involved, can’t wait for next year (Southern Maryland maybe?)!

It’s no secret that I love dogs, the bigger the better for me (sorry Blake, I like big dogs and I cannot lie, but I still love you). Everytime I see Luke + Blake, it makes me want another one. After the passing of our Tucker last January, we’ve been talking about getting another dog, but always put it off due to Ellie’s young age. But Walter and Yelena’s Luke, a Golden Doodle, reminds me so much of Tucker and makes me want to instantly get another puppy. It’s always a pleasure to see Walter and Yelena, and their two pups, I had a blast photographing them this past Saturday and look forward to seeing them again soon! Thanks again guys!

Every year on Thanksgiving, the Thorns have family portraits done, and I’m blessed to have been able to photograph them for the second year in a row. They’re a wonderful and fun family and my time is greatly enjoyed with them! Thanks again Mollie and Phil, hope you guys love the photos!

I had the distinct privilege of spending the majority of the day with the entire Thorn family this week, starting first with Eric and Diane and their two adorable kids Evan and Juliette. It was both a blast and a challenge since the session started at 2pm with full sun, but we were able to soldier through it and capture some great moments.

For years I’ve wanted to attend Zack Arias’ OneLight Workshop and for countless reasons I’ve never been able to attend, until now. I was super stoked to finally meet Zack and finally get to hear him speak in person. It was a great honor and he’s one of the nicest guys in the business, and totally an open book. Much respect to him and what he does. I also had the great pleasure of meeting many new wonderful photographers from the area, hope to keep in touch with you guys. The workshop was held at the new Union 206 Studio in Old Town Alexandria, Virgina which is a really great space and hope to work there some more in the future. Charles did a really great job setting the place up.

My little Ellie is growing up so fast, she’s 10.5 months now and is now mobile. She went from stationary to zipping across the floors in a blink of an eye. It’s amazing. I got home today and she was awake from her nap, just hanging out in her crib playing with her pacifier, when I walked up to her, she took it out and tried to shove it in my mouth. Her personality is really coming out, again, it’s amazing. Anyway, I took her out and put her on mom and dads messy bed, opened up the windows, grabbed the camera and had a blast with her. Love this little girl. God has truly blessed Krista and I.
No more stationary Ellie, she’s all over the place now which means lots of out of focus photos from dad!

I was contacted by Jessica back in June to photograph her little girl, Ava when they came up to visit Jessica’s aunt in La Plata, Maryland. Her aunt has an amazing backyard and was the perfect setting for family portraits. Ava is a sweet heart and I had a great time photographing her and her wonderful family.
